Ralph Bell had such a distinctive voice, you could always tell it was him. I like him a lot.

Liz B

He sounds very similar to Ralph Bellamy (Trading Places) also.

Marc

I recently heard an X-Minus One episode that starred two of my favorite CBSRMT actors...Larry Haines and Ralph Bell.

Brian

Ralph Bell is my favorite of the men on the show and Larry Haines is also a favorite. They are both great actors.

Amy

Ralph Bell is my favorite actor.

Brody

My favorite actor is Ralph Bell

Richard

Ralph Bell is my favorite of the men on CNSRMT! He is really a good actor! I especially love the way he plays the evil characters, lol! He is really good. Also, he was in some TV shows as well. Check out 'Suspense' episode 'The Suicide Club'. He plays the club president, who wears a patch over his eye. He was also a gifted comedian. He was in an Andy Griffith episode called 'The Cow Thief'. He was a guest on other TV shows as well.

LuAnne

Ralph Bell made "The Man who asked for yesterday" one of my all-time favorites. I saw some other favorites in there as well.

LuAnne

Ralph Bell is definitely one of my favorite CBSRMT actor.

Daniel

Agree with the praise above. Definitely my favorite actor. Such a distinctive voice which lends itself perfectly to radio. Who in the world would give him a thumbs down and why??

Anastasia

I know, Anastasia, I am not sure why anyone would give ANY of these hard-working, talented people a thumbs-down. Ralph Bell is definitely one of my very favorite actors. His voice is so distinctive and unique.

CBSRMT spotted in the wild. I was watching the movie Super 8 which was made in 2011, but takes place in 1979. In the opening, about 10 minutes in, there is a scene where one of the kids at his desk in his bedroom and he's listening to CBS Radio Mystery Theater. It only lasts about 10 seconds but you can hear the distinctive voice of Ralph Bell, and you could tell from the ambient sound that it was an actual episode. Could be a fun project for a die-hard fan to try to identify the episode?

Sam

Interesting. I noticed when watching the Twilight Zone that the show used some of the same music as CBSRMT. I caught that when I saw it at the theater. My wife wasn't nearly as excited about it as I was

Ralph

I remember getting excited about it and paused to explain and my ex looked at me like, "who cares". I need to go watch that again ...wonder if they have it at the library (the New Blockbusters)

Vic

"Love After Death" episode 0951.

Jerry

I struck me today I've been listening to these shows just about every day for at least 10 years now. Working through them from top to bottom and back again. They're my go-to ear candy for sitting in traffic. I'm sure there are lots of you out there that share this sentiment.

Sam

One of the great voices of CBSRMT, among many greats. Somehow, no matter how far out the story, Mr. Bell could bring it to life and make it (almost) believable. Thank you, Sir!

Scott Boyd

My favorite OTR actor. “Wolfen’ is a good movie.

Bruce

Ralph Bell is one of my favorite radio actors and tonight I heard him in "Under Grave Suspicion" on CBS Radio Mystery Theater. What a tour de force! About 75% of the episode was him alone. He did a great job, very dramatic and almost heartbreaking, and carried the show. Robert Dryden and William Redfield (two other favorites) did swell jobs as well.

Maggie

For Sam, in regards to the movie Super 8. The episode in question was "Love After Death", episode 0951.

Jerry

Ralph Bell was one of the best actors, and he did so many great episodes. He was fantastic as the villain in the episode about rats. I guess that was his best performance because he was so terrifying. (If you were asking about Larry Haines, that would be much easier. I think his best performance was "The Black Room.") Another great episode was "The Man Who Asked for Yesterday" where Ralph Bell plays the Devil, who makes a deal with a man who wants to do the last part of his life over again and avoid the mistakes he made. I really enjoyed him in that role.

Anne

So I was watching some Perry Mason and suddenly THAT THEME. The episode: The Case of the Libelous Locket. IMDB notes: "The ominous music that plays in the background when Janice is being extorted was used as the theme music for the Radio Mystery Theater."

Jon

One of the best voices on CBSRMT - As a kid I pictured him totally differently and carry that image until this day.

Ali

Ralph Bell had a long career as a radio personality, voice actor, narrator and radio announcer on dozens of programs including The Cavalcade Of America, The Mysterious Traveler, The Lux Radio Theater, X-Minus One, Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, Theater Five and Suspense. He appeared in over a dozen Broadway productions and numerous film and television programs. His film credits include Edge Of The City, What's So Bad About Feeling Good?, Hail, Wolfen and Zelig. His television credits include Hawaiian Eye, Wanted: Dead Or Alive, The Andy Griffith Show, The Patty Duke Show, Kate & Allie, Law & Order and appearances on the daytime soap operas, Guiding Light and The Edge Of Night.

Charlie

I remember recognizing Ralph by his voice instantly as a kid when I saw him on The Andy Griffith show episode about the cow thief. He played the detective Barney was trying to impress. Excellent actor! My favorite CBSRMT episode was "A Choice of Witnesses", when Ralph played Mr. Kellerman.

David

I was visiting relatives a few years back and this episode was on in the background. I heard that voice and instantly said, “That’s Ralph Bell!” Everyone looked at me. Who? Then I filled them in. I had never seen him before; only heard him in radio performances and commercial VO. Nice little surprise in life.

Chas.

One of the best! I catch him on radio shows from the 40's onward. It's interesting that he did some work in Hollywood in the late 50's to early 60's. He was quite the NYC staple.

Daniel

Top 3 OTR, right up there with Gwynne and Kramer. Just amazing.

Ian Black

Ralph could play a very good evil-mysterious character, which fired my imagination many times. ;-)

Mel

Ralph was superb...great appearances on: 'Inner Sanctum'...'Mysterious Traveler'...'2000 Plus' etc. and also excellent years later on the 120+ CBSRMT' eps he was on. RIP Ralph

TD

I was listening to episodes in the upper 500's and realized the voice in the episode was the same as the commercial that came on during the break. He had a voice great for radio and great for selling cars! CBSRMT had a repertory of versatile actors and actresses who had wonderful opportunities to stretch the boundaries of their craft in ways that television and films ruled out. Actors were less likely to fall victim to type. Actors in their 60's could play characters in their 20's so long as they could sell it.
