We used to listen to these on our transistor radios as kids...this is a favorite that we recorded on cassette! Now i listen to OTR app at night...Good story, great characters and vocals. Enjoy!

Becky

A thousand year old skeleton with the hands of a murdered woman -- shocking!!!

Jimmy Beshires

Decent story with a little twist at the edn

Comedic sci-fi murder mystery, the sort of episode I loved as a kid, although I didn't actually hear this one as a kid. There were some clues that a careful listener could pick up, but the sci-fi element was sort of just inserted. Murder mystery, mild science fiction.

Andy

I missed this the first time around, but just discovered it now. It is an uncharaceristically witty script for cbsrmt. Thoroughly enjoyable and fun to listen to.

Fred

This was Mystery Theater's venture into humor. It wasn't one of my favorites, but I can tell from the previous comments that this was a better-liked episode from other comments. 2 stars.

Davy Joe

This was an enjoyable episode, featuring a hard-boiled, wisecracking female detective. Almost none of the characters in this episode are what they appear to be at first glance.

Thomas

An interesting archeological tale in which a young woman is found as an artifact. A cleaver female investigator comes to the rescue and uses her wit and some biting quips to solve the case.

Jess

This episode cracks me up. Altho the plot has some Scooby-Doo-worthy turns, the dialogue is clever and funny enough to overshadow that. This one makes my MT FAVORITES playlist.

Greg Gerard

When archeology students uncover a strangely decomposed body in the Arizona desert, A lady detective is called in to solve the mystery.

Bernard G.

Superb dialogue and an intriguing mystery make this one Highly Recommended.

Bemont R.

I like wise-cracking as much as anybody, I just felt the actress playing the detective didn't have that great of a comedic deliver for her lines. Kinda flat delivery. Otherwise, I still enjoyed it.

Don

Arizona archaeology students uncover an unusually decomposed body and an off-duty California policewoman is called in to help solve the mystery. Archaeology, science, investigations, and death. Superb ingredients for a great mystery. Some brilliant writing and the opening banter between the California policewoman, and the local assistant sherrif is witty, and entertaining.

Mr. Lohan

The notion of an old skeleton with intact hands was potentially unnerving. It had the potential for X-Files type creeps. But every character was a cartoon caricature, which diluted the creepiness with silliness.

Thomas

4 stars... Pretty good story, humor was hit and miss. Has commercials.

Wisconsin

Humor was cheesy cheese, but it gave me the distinct feeling I was watching a tongue-in-cheek Abbott & Costello "mystery" movie. Still, the hands were really a good mystery, and the twist at the end was fitting justice.

Mike

I hunted and hunted for these shows! I used to listen to them on my transistor radio with one ear-phone when I went to bed on a school night. My mother would tell me to go right to sleep, but as soon as that door was shut out game my radio! Thank God for Internet!!

Kid at heart

Wow, the actor playing Jimmy REALLY sounds like Pete on "Mad Men" (Vincent Kartheiser). Talk about a vocal double!

susie

I liked the female lead in this one because she was so different from the female characters that are typical in these radio dramas. Confident and knowledgable - and not whimpering dramactically about one thing or another! for that reason alone I gave it 5 stars!

This was the first episode of CBS Radio Mystery Theatre I ever recorded, on an 8-track tape. I kept it for years and would listen to it occasionally. Eventually, the tape deteriorated and wouldn't play anymore. I figured I'd never get to hear it again, until I found it listed here. The wise-cracking female lead in the story always reminded me of Eve Arden.

Robert

I agree with the others that the lead female character is fun to listen to and the sheriff ends up being entertaining as well. It's interesting that it ends on such a dramatic note after all the humor throughout, but still a good listen.

I rate this episode ★★★★☆ for GOOD. Here’s what I liked the best: the cast starring Louise Larabee (as Detective Claudia Trubshaw), Mason Adams (as Sheriff Wiley/Senior Tepexpan), Ralph Bell (as Professor Wilkerson), Corrine Orr (as Jeannine), Ann Costello (as Edith Rogers and Susan Maythorpe), and Kristoffer Tabori (as Jimmy Trimble). This group of 6 did fantastic on their roles, especially Louise Larabee. It’s a shame that this was the only episode she did for CBSRMT. She would’ve been perfect for more detective stories as the modern Sherlock Holmes, only she’d be “Shirley Holmes.” Another thing that I liked was the music. A variety of suspenseful tracks in every Act to keep the story flowing. The sound effects of the car engine, breaks, howling wind, footsteps, hanging up the phone, paper note, the gun shot, and the tool shed door were highly supportive for this archeological story. Now there are 2 reasons why I rate this 4 out of 5 stars. First up, the Script. S.J. Wilson’s Drama-Mystery was decent. It had a clever Detective with her good choice of words, clues were pointed out in every plot point, each character was suspicious, and there was a surprising Climax. What was missing, was the Resolution. We all know what the killer will have to face for her crime (SPOILER ALERT: the killer is a female), but what about the other characters? Will the rest of them continue with archeology? Will Detective Claudia Trubshaw continue to solve more cases? What happened to the remains of the skeleton and the victim’s hands? I suppose that CBSRMT fans have to come up with our own ending. The title works, but another way to title this would be “The Hands of Edith Rogers.” And the 2nd reason why I rate this 4 out of 5 stars: the Host. E.G. Marshall starts the show off with “The fear you can hear” (Classic!) In ACT-1, he points out that 2 hands of the present are attached to a skeleton of the past. In ACT-2, he quotes from the book of Proverbs 26:27. In ACT-3, he points out that our female killer will go through a slower and painful death. Everything was going smoothly on his narrations, except for his Epilogue where he says, “Eat moderately, drink moderately…and murder moderately.” It's like our Host was saying if you’re going to do something wrong, do it right. How mysterious is that to say to the fans of CBSRMT? Anyway, tune in to this mystery story. SPECIAL BONUS: it has commercials of Kellogg’s Special K cereal, Frank Leiber for Radio 1080 AM, Hal Linden on conserving energy by the Federal Energy Office, Terramycin ointment from Pfizer, Anheuser-Busch of Budweiser, Frank Leiber for True Value Hardware stores, and the Franciscans about lying. And check out S.J. Wilson’s other mystery story #0013-A RING OF ROSES. Until next time…pleasant dreams. =0)

Plot mistake: Carbon-14 dating doesn't work on stone objects like spear points. It only works on organic material.

I also listened on my snoopy radio out of Chicago. One of my best memories of childhood!

Something puzzles me if this episode was pretending to be science fiction. (Possible Spoiler alert)If this machine has radiation capable of turning a victim's body into 2,000 year old bones in a matter of minutes, or hours, Why is it that the killer's fingerprints remained intact on the machine's head undamaged so that the lab could identify the killer? Aren't fingerprints just organic oils released by the subcutaneous skin glands? Radiation destroying everything but bones would also destroy the fingerprints.

Enjoyed this episode with a female detective well uses good one liners with dry humor! Interesting twists with the characters. Loved the commercials, what memories.

Nancy

This is one of my faves!!! Love the witty archeologist and the sheriffs relationship. Wish there were more cheeky episodes like this. I appreciate CBSRMT so much, if the people who did these ever knew !!! I listen every day, pure joy! I bought a disc of them online, has all 1400 episodes ! Truly great **

Jay

Radiocarbon actually decreases in radioactivity with time. Someone already noted the inability to date a projectile point with C-14. Otherwise...meh. I like most CBSRMT shows but credulity...really?

Kev

Corrine Orr will be very familiar to Speed Racer fans as the voice of Trixie, Speed Racer's girlfriend! BTW, Jack Grimes who was the voice of Sparky has also performed in some other CBSRMT episodes.

Go Mifune

Difficult listening to Mason Adams as a rube. Good commercials.

Pluto Hartley

The detective is down right rude to everyone. Constant insults. I know it’s supposed to be funny, but if I was the sherriff I might have slapped her (your iq is lower than death valley)…
