3 Responses to Owens Ray

I have enjoyed the CBS Radio Mystery Theater--even though I was not yet born for the first half of its run. It's great to hear so many up-and-coming stars as well as radio's original stars and all the other talents of the (primarily) NYC area. I am not certain if Ray Owens (sometimes credited as "Cliff Owens") did much radio work during the Golden Age of radio, but, as anyone who has listened to any of his episodes in this series can attest to, he was a fine voice actor. Many of the Baby Boomers have heard the late Mr. Owens (updated information on his imdb page) in such series as Astroboy (as Dr. Elefun), Gigantor (as Inspector Blooper), and Kimba the White Lion (as Dan'l Baboon), but the Gen-Xers may remember him for his roles in Superbook (as Prof. Peeper) and The Flying House (as S.I.R. the Robot), both Christian anime series. Needless to say, in all of these series, he performed multiple roles, not just the aforementioned ones, and in many other series as well (primarily dubs of anime series). Besides acting, Ray also performed script writing duties (Japanese to English) for all of these series. The profile picture is definitely not that of Ray Owens though. (I will try to find a better one of him.) I am actually a bit surprised that I was the first to comment on Ray Owens' work, but I hope that I am not the last. Kudos to this wonderful site for keeping radio plays alive and well!

Ray Owens (sometimes listed as Cliff Owens) had an extensive career as a voice actor (and writer) in numerous animated series including Gigantor, Astroboy, Kimba the White Lion, the Flying House and Superbook. He also appeared on the daytime soap opera the Doctors and the courtroom drama Matlock.

Charlie

I just heard him play a small time crook in 'King Bankrobber'. Great performance and great episode.
