Mr. Gardner

Hmmm, I had never heard this one before. It's a quirky little episode, that has psychological elements. The "ghost" is most likely his conscience. The youth vernacular is very dated, but it has historical value, because the 70's was a decade In which older people were still trying desperately to hold onto the morals and values and rules of the 1950's, and the characters actually portray this, though it may sound strange to a younger listener. This is the value of OTR, that we can hear our country's lost culture of the period in the dialogue. But getting back to this Episode, I would say a good companion piece to this one is to listen to "the Long Blue Line", a better one, which is also about an older Detective dealing with a younger relative

Ginnie Turner, beautiful, redheaded and a school teacher, knifes to death a rock ’n’ roll singing star, Bobby Lee Armature, when he insists that she spend the night with his guitar player, Chunky Chapman. Ginnie’s father, a police captain, investigates the slaying and smells, at the scene of the crime, the rare perfume his daughter uses. Additional evidence convinces him that she is guilty, but he can’t bring himself to arrest his own daughter.

Jack

The perfume clue is ridiculously contrived.

The 70's we're ripe for #metoo. Creepy rock star get knifed for wanting to pass around his 'prime stock.' Blech. But interesting radio drama time capsule. Thank you RMT and the curator of this set of programs!

Very touching story that hits close to home! Not only realizing that your precious children are not children anymore, but growing up in ways that break a parent"s heart!
