The story was pretty good and I usually like Kevin McCarthy in the movies. But as Sherlock Holmes his English accent sucks the chrome off a bumper.

I would much prefer Holmes have a good East Enders or Cockney accent. (Lol). Obviously Hi Brown liked Kevin McCarthy's version of British English. Whatever accent is used, it is interpreted by the actor from the writen script and approved by Hi Brown.
