When a man returns to his hometown with his son, a long-dead woman returns to claim him for jilting her years earlier. A moderately complex tale of the undoing of a man who was mean to those around him and the son on which he preyed.

I found this episode hard to hang on to – lots of characters to sort out. A young man, tired of bowing to his father’s tyrannical orders, seeks strength from his past and seeks help from his dead mother. He capitalizes on his father’s gambling addiction and seeks redress for past wrongs his father committed.

I thought this was an okay story. I only slightly agree with Ross that at least the nanny's niece wasn't really needed for the story as she really didn't do much for it (except perhaps pad out the time a bit). At least the nanny was correct at the end about gambling on a wedding night.

According to the way the townsfolk talk, it was just two days after Sir Bale Mardykes drowned his wife Libby, years ago so he could marry a rich baroness, that the luminous form of a female began to rise halfway out of the lake on dark, misty days. Some of the superstitious townspeople believe it is Libby, rising from the spot where she was drowned, and they foresee nothing but trouble when her son, Philip, now grown, returns to determine if the shape is really his mother and to confront Sir Bale, his father.
