I rate this episode ★★★☆☆ for AVERAGE. When Murray Burnett wrote #0792-THE ASSASSIN, that was suspenseful. When Sam Dann wrote #0972-THE GOLDEN GIRL, that assassin story was “out of this world.” But this assassin story, written by Ian Martin, was mediocre. Ian Martin’s writing is good, but the scenario of this Drama-Mystery didn’t build up until the 2nd half. The 1st half was just about making arrangements, both for the Protagonists & the Antagonist. The title worked, but only in the final scene. Another way to title this story would be “The Stakeout.” SPECIAL NOTE: The characters mention the address 4260 Madison Avenue in New York. It turns out that the Apartment Complex is on Riverton Square, right by the Madison Avenue Bridge that goes over the Harlem River. The sound effects of the piano music, people murmuring at the restaurant, traffic noise, birds chirping, paper bag of money, bell tolls, photographs, rotary phone, the diner, car engine running, doorknob, balcony door, telescopic lens, seagulls by the cruise ship, crutches, elevator, light switch, the slap, bed sheets, water pail, and the electrocution were very beneficial. The music was good, but they played the dramatic tunes way too many times. E.G. Marshall brings up the topic of assassins and how they’re a lonesome breed in his Prologue. In ACT-1, he mentions the subculture of violence, plus understanding the Antagonist’s way of living. In ACT-2, our Host lets us know that the assassination is still being prepped. In ACT-3, he mentions that we are creatures of habit, but more importantly, reasonable actions are created by reasonable people. In his Epilogue, E.G. Marshall informs us that the assassin did not die from the electrocution (SPOILER ALERT), but also inform listeners on safety precautions on dealing with electrical appliances, like a Public Service Announcement. Our Host’s narrations weren’t masterful, but informative. Last but not least, our cast: Joe Silver (as Miller Farm), Patricia Elliott (as Judy Fuller), Michael Wager (as Jerry Fuller & Hami), and Ian Martin (as El Generaliffe, the Amigo, and George). I’d give props to Joe Silver for playing the assassin; he had the right tone of voice for a villain. As for the leading actress and our minor actors, they played suitable characters.
